Linda Duke was invited to be the commencement keynote speaker for the Class of 2009 Kitchen Academy graduates in Sacramento last night. The Educational Director, chef Michael Cross, a friend of Linda's since high school, introduced her to the crowd of 200 guests and 45 graduates. Duke shared seven tips of wisdom: hard work and humility, persistence, passion, resilience, be fearless, do your homework, service is better than selfishness, and find the joy!

The Kitchen Academy is a professional culinary school where students learn the skills needed to succeed in today's professional cooking environment. With locations in Sacramento, California and a new campus in Seattle, Washington, this comprehensive culinary program offers a Professional Culinary Arts Diploma in 9 months. Their state-of-the-art facility includes a full service restaurant with rotating menu weekly. Classrooms are equipped with the latest technology, and each cook's station has its own flat panel TV monitor so students can watch the instructor cooking or learning how to filet a fish--which is what they were learning while we were watching!

Michael and Linda enjoyed dinner in the Kitchen Academy's restaurant, named Bella Donna, and watched as students presented their dishes. They served a three course meal and did a great job!
