Emmy and Golden Globe-winnning television series Mad Men kicked off its season opener this week with a big client pitch. The Duke Marketing team also kicked off a new client relationship this week with a big client pitch!

For those of you who haven't seen Mad Men, this hit TV series takes place in the 1960's and revolves around the conflicted world of Don Draper (Jon Hamm), the biggest advertising man (and ladies man) in the business, and his colleagues at a fictitous New York advertising agency, Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. The series depicts authentically the roles of men and women back in the1960s with its male dominated advertising world and the woman's place in the home.

Duke Marketing also welcomed a new member to the team this week, Patrick, a graphic design and marketing graduate from Cal Poly. Patrick participated at the client pitch this week along with Laura, Mike and LDuke.

Unlike the season opener of Mad Men, the Duke team did not throw the client out like Don Draper did! The Duke team was thrilled the client liked the presentation and no one threw anyone out!

The premise of Mad Men is pretty interesting. Back in the 1960's the ad agencies and creatives were treated like "god's". It was the beginning of TV and many other mediums like radio, newspaper and magazines were also beginning to create more and more oppourtnities for brands to display their products and services. It was the time when there were only a handful of shops that created such work unlike today when anyone can be a writer, designer or video producer with a click of a mouse. Back then, like Don Draper so passionately shows in the first show this season, if the client didn't like your concept, you threw them out of your office! We won't ruin the rest for you who haven't tuned in, but if you have anything to do with marketing, public relations and advertising, you should watch this! It is amazing to see how far we have come since the 60's.
