UCLA Restaurant Conference 2013 Innovation Award Recipient Culinary Institute of America's Dr. Tim Ryan

Linda Duke with 2013 Innovation Award Recipient
Dr. Tim Ryan: President, The Culinary Institute of America
I was honored to meet and hear the great story of Dr.Tim Ryan, this year's Innovation Award Recipient at the UCLA Restaurant Conference. Dr. Ryan is the President of the CIA--the other one!  He is well-known throughout the hospitality world.
He holds the distinction of being the youngest national president of the American Culinary Federation (ACF), elected at age 36, and the youngest chef to receive Master Chef certification from the ACF, at age 26. In 1998, Chef Ryan was named the ACF Chef of the Year. He has also served as ACF vice president and chairman, and is a former chairman of the editorial council for the ACF publication, The National Culinary Review.
Dr. Ryan is one of five Americans ever to receive the Presidential Medal from the World Association of Cooks Societies. He is also a member of the James Beard Foundation's Who's Who of Food & Beverage in America.

Interviewed by Jerry Deitchle, retired Chairman of BJ’s Restaurants, Dr. Ryan spoke about his take on today's TV Chef Celebrities and how food borne illness is still the greatest threat to our industry.
